Scottish champions Rangers completed a £1.5 million swoop for Hearts defender Lee Wallace on Thursday, just two days before the sides clash on the opening weekend of the new season.

Rangers had failed with two previous bids for the left-back, but he has now signed a five-year contract with the Ibrox giants.

"It's great to have a club of Rangers' stature interested in you and then when it comes to signing for the club it's even better," said Wallace.

"I'm ambitious. I will be 24 next week and I want to play at the highest level.

"If any youngster doesn't have that ambition, there must be something wrong with them.

"I've got these ambitions and I'm now here at a huge club."

Rangers have also signed United States international midfielder Alejandro Bedoya on a pre-contract agreement subject to a work permit.

The player will arrive in Glasgow in January when his contract with Swedish club Orebro expires.

"Rangers Football Club has today reached agreement with American international Alejandro Bedoya, subject to a work permit," said a Rangers statement.

"The midfielder will arrive in Glasgow in January 2012."
