Rangers have confirmed they have rejected a £6.5million bid from Leicester for striker Nikica Jelavic.

The npower Championship side attempted to swoop for the Croatian ahead of Wednesday's transfer deadline but the Scottish champions have thrown out the offer.

A statement on the club's website read: "Rangers Football Club can confirm that they have today rejected a £6.5million bid for striker Nikica Jelavic from English Championship side Leicester City."

Jelavic, 26, signed for Rangers in a £4million move from Rapid Vienna last August.

His debut season at Ibrox was blighted by injury when he was sidelined for almost four months with ankle ligament damage.

However, the forward enjoyed a productive return to action and ended the season with an impressive haul of 19 goals.

He has found the back of the net three times so far this term.

Rangers also rejected an offer of £400,000 from Bolton for youngster Gregg Wylde earlier this month.
