Rangers fans fire warning to Boyd

Rangers fans have warned Kris Boyd he could find himself stepping down a level after the striker confirmed plans to quit the SPL champions.[LNB] The 26-year-old says he will leave Ibrox when his current deal expires this summer because he feels he has achieved all he can in Scottish football.[LNB]He has yet to confirm where he will be playing his football next season but has been linked with moves to Turkish club Kayserispor, Birmingham, Blackburn, Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Wolves.[LNB]Although he can understand Boyd's desire to seek a "fresh challenge" elsewhere, John Macmillan, Secretary of the Rangers Supporters Clubs, believes he is also sacrificing Champions League football and the chance to win silverware every season.[LNB]Macmillan said: "It's disappointing to hear that he feels there is not much more he can achieve at Rangers.[LNB]"I don't know what's behind that remark because he can achieve the SPL title and he can have another run in the Champions League.[LNB]"To be perfectly honest, I think it's unlikely he would be going to a club who are going to be involved in the Champions League on a regular basis.[LNB]"I don't think, with all due respect to Kris Boyd, he is going to be picked up by one of the top clubs in the Premiership. I don't think very many of them have been chasing him."[LNB]Fans welcomed the news last week that manager Walter Smith is remaining at the helm for one more season and that cash will be made available for him to strengthen over the summer.[LNB]But Macmillan insists the Ibrox faithful deserve more answers from the club's hierarchy, in terms of signing targets and the ongoing search for a new owner.[LNB]"Fans are a bit impatient but I think they have every right to be," he said.[LNB]"They are being asked to renew season tickets and I think fans have a right to know what's happening.[LNB]"The off-field situation has not been resolved either and that's also worrying.[LNB]"If there was someone who could come in and invest quite a sum of money in the team, the blow from the departure of these players would be softened quite a bit."[LNB]As for Rangers' chances of retaining the Clydesdale Bank Premier League title for a third successive season, Macmillan admitted: "It's going to be very tight. It was a hard struggle last season with the resources available.[LNB]"But, if you're playing for a club like Rangers, you've got to be up for the challenge or you shouldn't be there.[LNB]"The players pulled it off last season and, hopefully, the ones who are left will be aided by another two, three, four new players.[LNB]"We will have to get on with it, with what we've got, and hope we can do it again."
