Rangers close to Aluko deal

Ian Durrant is hopeful that Rangers will complete the signing of Sone Aluko on Thursday after edging closer to a compensation agreement with Aberdeen.

Aluko - who has been without a club since his Dons contract expired in the summer - impressed while on trial with the Scottish champions.

Durrant said: "It's just an agreement between the two teams and hopefully it will happen today and Sone will be available for Sunday."

He added: "There are just a couple of things to be ironed out between Rangers and Aberdeen and, for Sone's sake, hopefully it will be done today.

"It's down to finance now and as soon as we get it sorted he will be a great addition for Rangers."

Durrant believes Aluko could go some way to filling the void left by Steven Naismith, who is out for the season with cruciate ligament damage.

He added: "It's well known with Steven being out that we're short up front and Sone can play in a variety of positions.

"He can play on the left and he can play through the middle. He has also been in the SPL for a few years with Aberdeen so he brings a bit of experience to the team for such a young lad."

Durrant was speaking at the Tesco Bank Football Challenge Festival in Glasgow.
