Rangers chief executive Green angry about league changes

Rangers chief executive Charles Green insists Scottish football chiefs should have invited his club to take part in league reconstruction talks.

The Scottish Premier League and the Scottish Football League have agreed in principle to a restructuring plan that would see the organisations merge in a 12-12-18 structure. As associate members of the SFL, Rangers will not have a vote on the issue but Green - who now claims the Ibrox side should quit Scotland - believes they should have been among the clubs consulted.

He told RangersTV: "There have been a series of meetings, I believe, with various clubs being asked to give a view but I haven't been asked, although I'm past the point of waiting for invitations as I'm not on anyone's guest list. Putting me aside, I think it is unbelievable that we have a proposal that is now being debated which could come into place for next year."

He added: "We have no say in it, we have no vote in it - although that's par for the course for Rangers. If we are genuinely looking at transforming Scottish football then why wouldn't you include the biggest club?

"Why wouldn't you ask what their plans might be, where they could assist with sponsorship or with financial input because this is all about cash?

"What we have demonstrated - not just to Scottish football but to the world - is that we took this club from the abyss in May, turned it round, transformed its finances, put it in front of the financial world and the institutions in London who have supported it.

"So if anyone ever wanted evidence that we know what we are doing, we have delivered it, we've done it."

If the new format is rubber-stamped for next season, Irn-Bru Third Division leaders Rangers would remain in the bottom tier of Scottish football regardless of any title success this term, albeit with the potential time frame for a return to the top-flight remaining the same.

Green added: "In what league do you win a division and then end up playing the same teams again the following season? There is no meaning to it, in reality.

"I haven't read anything other than what is in the press and if that is what we have sat here eagerly awaiting to transform Scottish football, my advice to the board of Rangers is the quicker we can leave Scottish football the better."
