In the past week we’ve had the revelation that far from being a ‘low-level paper-gatherer,’ as had been briefed to the press, Harper MacLeod lawyer Rod McKenzie in fact led the prosecution case against Rangers in front of the SPL Commission.Sadly, Mr McKenzie was badly injured in a road traffic accident before Christmas. So badly in fact his fractured femur required him to be wheeled in both pejoratively and physically to the SPL Commission hearing regarding Rangers and possible player registration errors. A remarkable devotion to duty.Equally remarkable is his devotion to his clients, the Scottish Premier League. So devoted that the SPL’s legal advisor has never missed an SPL Board meeting. Equally remarkable is the fact that the Board has never once gone against his advice on any topic.Such unanimity may cause Rod in his idle time to ponder, purely as an intellectual exercise you understand, the vagaries and legalities of the concept of “shadow director.” Still, having rendered such sterling service let’s hope one of the SPL clubs does the decent thing and appoints him as their official rep. It’s only fair.
