Perry eyeing Rangers breakthrough

Defender Perry, 19, plans to use his four-month loan spell at Oxford to prove to Walter Smith he has what it takes to emulate the likes of John Fleck and Greg Wylde, who made his debut in Saturday's 4-1 SPL win over Hamilton.[LNB]Perry had a brief taste of life in the first-team squad two years ago but, despite twice winning domestic doubles at under-21 level, his progress has been hampered by injury.[LNB]Yet, with cash-strapped Rangers having signed only Jerome Rothen on loan during the transfer window, Perry believes this could be his breakthrough season.[LNB]"Definitely - you've seen they'll give all the boys a chance if the right occasion comes up," Perry said.[LNB]"The young boy Greg Wylde got on at the weekend there, so it shows they're not scared to give young boys a chance and that obviously bodes well for the future."[LNB]Perry is under no illusions that even if he were to catch the eye of manager Smith, he would only be playing understudy to the likes of David Weir and Madjid Bougherra.[LNB]"At centre-half, there are obviously two great players, Davie and Bougherra," said Perry, who could make his Scotland Under-21 debut in Saturday's European Championship qualifier in Austria.[LNB]"So I'll try to gain a bit of experience at Oxford and hopefully that will do me a great deal of good."[LNB]Rangers have been forced to farm out some of their young players after the reserve league was disbanded.[LNB]Perry has seen only four minutes of action for Oxford in the two games they have played since he joined.[LNB]It is the first time the teenager has lived away from home and he is glad to be joined at the club by Rangers team-mate Steven Kinniburgh.[LNB]Perry said: "It helps a lot that he's down there. You wouldn't want to go down there on your own and he makes me feel more comfortable."[LNB][LNB][LNB]
