Old Firm suspension blow for Miller

31 December 2009 15:37
Miller was sent off by referee Willie Collum for kicking out at United defender Darren Dods during his side's 7-1 victory at Ibrox.[LNB]Rangers were adamant video evidence would clear their player but in a statement the Scottish Football Association said:[LNB]"In accordance with the provisions for claims of wrongful dismissal, the referee, William Collum, was requested to review the circumstances of the player's sending off, in conjunction with the Referee Development Department.[LNB]"The referee has indicated that he is content with his decision, after confirmation of the player's violent conduct using both arm and leg.[LNB]"The claim is therefore dismissed automatically and will not be referred to the review panel.[LNB]"The player's automatic one-match suspension is applied, with 12 penalty points added to his disciplinary record."[LNB]The red card takes Miller over the points threshold and he will serve a two-match ban starting with the trip to Parkhead.[LNB]The Scotland striker will also miss the visit to Hamilton in the SPL on January 16.[LNB]Miller's absence means Ibrox manager Walter Smith will have to find a new strike partner for in-form Kris Boyd who broke Henrik Larsson's SPL goalscoring record with five goals against United, taking his tally to 160.[LNB]Victory for Rangers will take them 10 points clear of Celtic at the top of the SPL.[LNB][LNB]
