New Gers deal on table for Boyd

Boyd's representative, Mark Donaghy, had a meeting with Ibrox chief executive Martin Bain on Thursday in which a new deal was tabled for the 26-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season.[LNB]Smith said: "Martin spoke with Kris' agent yesterday and made him an offer.[LNB]"They have been left to think about it. We are hopeful we can reach agreement.[LNB]"It's a big decision he has to make and it's up to him.[LNB]"We hope he will stay with the club."[LNB]Boyd is free to talk to other teams but Rangers are desperate for him to stay.[LNB]The Scottish Premier League's record goalscorer has been linked with both Birmingham and Middlesbrough.[LNB]There have been reports Pedro Mendes could be sold to Sporting Lisbon to finance a new deal for Boyd, with the midfielder confirming this week he would be open to a move back to Portugal.[LNB]"I wouldn't mind moving if it helped the club," he said. "I'm aware Rangers are not in a good financial position but to what extent I'm not sure."[LNB]Boyd almost left Ibrox a year ago after Rangers - who were told they had to sell players - agreed a fee with Birmingham but the move broke down over personal terms.[LNB]Ibrox manager Smith insists he does not have to sell this month and the club reportedly rebuffed a fresh enquiry from the Blues.[LNB]Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist this week assured supporters everyone at the club wanted Boyd to stay just as much as they do.[LNB]Furious fans groups have warned of a season ticket boycott if Boyd is sold but McCoist admitted the club's hands could be tied if he fails to agree a new deal.[LNB]"I hear all the fans saying they want Boydy to stay but I just hope that they appreciate we are the exact same," he said.[LNB]"We would be crazy if we didn't want to keep our top goalscorer. The man is absolutely on fire at the moment.[LNB]"But the situation is quite simple - his contract is up and he can exercise the right to speak to other clubs or speak to us about re-signing.[LNB]"I can speak for the rest of the coaches and the management when I say we all want Kris to stay and hopefully we can sort out a deal.[LNB]"I'd love to see him stay at Rangers and hopefully break more records and continue the way he is at the moment."[LNB][LNB] Hamilton v Rangers.
