The former Kilmarnock striker came on at half-time for Kris Boyd with the teams locked at 0-0 in the Frankenstadion. Three minutes later he showed a moment of class to work his way into the box and break the deadlock before having a hand in the second strike from Nacho Novo that clinched the win. Smith told Rangers' official website: "Our overall possession of the ball wasn't great today but that's something that will improve over time. "We were still a little bit rusty at times but we had some decent performances from our group and we were happy to win. "Steven Naismith did very well when he came on and we were delighted for him because he scored a fantastic goal. "This year he has come back looking really fit and we are confident he can go on to be a big player for us. "Neil Alexander and Allan McGregor were both excellent in goal."
