Naismith hails 'unbelievable' Boyd

Just when the club's Scottish Cup replay against St Mirren looked set for extra-time, Boyd secured safe passage into the last eight of the competition when he grabbed the only goal of the game with just four minutes to go.[LNB]Fellow forward Naismith admits the prolific marksman was badly missed when he was sidelined for around four weeks after a double hernia operation.[LNB]And, as 22-goal Boyd edges closer to hitting top form again, Naismith claims there is no-one else quite like him.[LNB]"Boydy is just unbelievable in the box," Naismith said.[LNB]"He's had a chance and put it away and that's why he is a vital player for us. He is massive for us. If you take his goals away, we lose a massive part of our team.[LNB]"When he was out with his hernia, the boys who came in did a good job. But you can't replace somebody of Boydy's quality."[LNB]Naismith was drafted back into the team as Rangers made six changes from the side who beat Hibernian in style in the Scottish Premier League.[LNB]And he confessed to being relieved at being back in manager Walter Smiths plans after being left out in the cold at the weekend.[LNB]"It was good to get back in the team," said Naismith.[LNB]"I faced the consequences of a bad game against Motherwell and I wasn't stripped at the weekend so it was good to get back in and I thought I did all right."[LNB]However, he believes the extra competition for places now that Rangers finally have a full squad available can only be good for the team.[LNB]Naismith - who has operated both up front and in midfield this season - admits lack of personnel has perhaps led to complacency on the pitch at times this term.[LNB]"It keeps everybody on their toes now," he said.[LNB]"We have been through phases in the season where there hasn't been much competition for places and the performances have maybe been a bit flat.[LNB]"But, with everybody back fit, everybody is putting everything into training and the manager is going to pick the best 11."[LNB]Rangers face St Mirren again in next month's Co-operative Insurance Cup final, when both clubs will contest the first major trophy of the season.[LNB]But, despite also sealing a last-eight berth in the Scottish Cup and sitting 10 points clear in the SPL, Naismith still refused to entertain talk of a domestic clean sweep.[LNB]He said: "It was important just to get into the next round - that's usually the philosophy in the cup games.[LNB]"We knew the first game wasn't the prettiest and this would be another tough game. We are just glad to get through.[LNB]"It's great to get into the next round and now we can just concentrate on the next league game. We will not get carried away with trebles or anything like that.[LNB]"We will just focus on each game as it comes and hopefully we win more than we lose.[LNB]"We don't take into consideration what each competition is - we just know we need to go out there in every game and put a performance in and get the victory.[LNB]"I think that has been our best asset this season, the togetherness and the fact that we have just taken each game as it comes. It has shown in the performances."[LNB][LNB]
