    Murray eyes Christmas comeback

    05 Oct 2006 - 11:48:24

Rangers star Ian Murray is determined to recover from arthritis and force his way into Paul Le Guen's first team by Christmas.

The Scotland international has not played since pre-season after picking up a virus which led to the onset of reactive arthritis, a condition which causes swelling and stiffness in the joints.

The 25-year-old told the Scottish Sun: "It has never once crossed my mind that I am finished.

"Yes, this has been one of the hardest spells of my career, but I feel brighter and more optimistic now.

"I have a target to be back playing by Christmas and if I work away slowly and surely I believe I can be back training with the first team in six weeks.

"I have heard all the stuff being thrown about saying my career is at risk and that is hard to take.

"I will beat this, I am sure of that because I have not once felt ill. I am ten times better than I was, it is like night and day."
