Miller hopes for end of injury hell

The striker had been doubtful for Sunday's clash after sitting out last week's Champions League defeat to Sevilla, with the lone striker role he usually performs handed to Steven Naismith for the night. However, he gave the Scottish champions a major boost when he lined up alongside Kris Boyd at Ibrox and grabbed an early double to secure a 2-1 win over their bitter rivals. Miller is set to fly to Germany to see a specialist in a bid to cure the troublesome injury once and for all, but says he has felt an improvement in recent days. He said: "I felt good ahead of the game, I'm getting different types of treatment with the masseurs and physios and a Thai therapist. "I hope we are getting on top of it because I have felt good all week. "Missing a big Champions League night was disappointing but I was always looking forward to this game and hopefully getting into the team." Miller has been making use of the same Thai therapist as Celtic defender Gary Caldwell and added: "I've just been doing a lot of stretching and acupuncture if required. "I've been seeing Ken for a while now and it looks like he is getting on top of it." Walter Smith was thrilled with Miller's contribution against Celtic but concedes a gruelling run of matches recently were too much for the striker. "In the early part of the game he looked very sharp," he said. "The injury that he's had is an awkward one. In hindsight, playing two international games and coming back and playing two big games for us has aggravated the problem he had previously. "I should maybe have been more careful with him. His visit to the specialist this week will hopefully put him back on the right track again." Smith also singled out David Weir for praise following an excellent performance from the 39-year-old alongside Sasa Papac, who was forced to deputise at centre-half for Madjid Bougherra who missed out with flu. "His consistency of performance is the thing for me," said the Rangers boss. "For someone his age to be having the level of consistency he has is quite remarkable." Aiden McGeady pulled a goal back from the penalty spot but Rangers managed to hold on for the win which allowed them to slash Celtic's lead at the summit of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League to a single point. "We actually started the game very well in terms of our pace of the game," said Smith. "It's the brightest we have looked in any league game this season. "Celtic have got good players and, for me, McGeady and Maloney are dangerous and can hold the ball well and push teams back. "We had to work very hard throughout the game to contain that."
