Mendes backs Gers for SPL title joy

Rangers sold Mendes to Sporting Lisbon over the weekend as they look to reduce their costs.[LNB]There have been fears that Rangers could struggle after losing key midfielder Mendes, but the 30-year-old believes Walter Smith's men will retain the championship without him.[LNB]"They will win the league. There is no doubt in my mind," Mendes told the Daily Record. "There is a long way to go but the way they are performing and their attitude, it is so good."[LNB]Mendes also praised Smith and admitted it was a privilege to work under the former Scotland chief.[LNB]"I have worked under some top managers and Walter is right up there," added Mendes. "It was a pleasure to work under him.[LNB]"He's a great manager.
