Boyd, 26, is out of contract in the summer and has been offered a new deal to stay with the Scottish champions, but he has delayed making a decision over his future due to the continuing uncertainty at Ibrox.[LNB]The Scotland international has also been linked with Blackburn, Wigan and Hull but Birmingham would be favourites to land a player who failed to agree personal terms with the midlands club in January 2009.[LNB]Blues boss McLeish, who signed Boyd for Rangers four years ago, said: "We have got a number of players we will try and pursue in the summer.[LNB]"I can talk about Boyd because he's out of contract and we have made contact with Rangers also, in terms of showing courtesy.[LNB]"Is signing Boyd still a possibility? Boyd is ongoing. He's talking to other clubs as well. He's a free agent - he has got that luxury.[LNB]"Have we spoken to his people since January? Yes."[LNB]McLeish, who has also been linked with a fresh move for Celtic's Aiden McGeady, admits Birmingham's healthy league position means he can step up his bid to strengthen his squad.[LNB]He said: "We should be able to steal a march in terms of getting some new staff in. The player search is ongoing.[LNB]"We wouldn't be able to do this if we were in a dogfight at the bottom of the league, and not knowing what league we're going to be in next season.[LNB]"We have put some plans in operation. We are looking at a number of names.[LNB]"It's whether I've got enough money to splash on one huge signing. That will be debatable because we may need to sign about six to seven players."[LNB]Boyd insists he would be a success in the Premier League if he decides to quit Scotland.[LNB]He told the Daily Record: "It would be nice to play in the Premiership. I've confidence in my own ability and believe I'd score goals at the highest level.[LNB]"But at the moment, all I want is to do well for Rangers and help them win more trophies.[LNB]"Sitting here I genuinely don't know if I'll stay or go, but I'd be happy to sign on again here and if I'm still banging in goals for Rangers five or six years from now, I'll be very happy.[LNB]"I've spoken to Walter Smith about my situation and he respects my decision to take my time about it and not to rush into anything.[LNB]"On the outside, it's easy for people to say, 'Come on, just sign again for Rangers', but it's not as easy as that.[LNB]"At this moment in time, the club is not stable and that is on my mind. This club needs stability. It needs to be sorted out.[LNB]"The gaffer, Ally McCoist, Kenny McDowall and Ian Durrant need to be given contracts. That should be the priority."[LNB][LNB]
