McKay ready to fight for place
Matt McKay has vowed to fight for his place in the Rangers team now that he is fully fit and ready for action.[LNB] The Australian midfielder joined this season from Brisbane Roar but his progress has been hampered by a knee injury.[LNB]He knows competition for a place in Ally McCoist's plans is fierce but is determined to show the manager what he has to offer.[LNB]McKay said: "It's been frustrating but it doesn't always work out the way you want it.[LNB]"I picked up a slight injury that kept me out for about a week after the Old Firm game but I'm back now fully fit and ready to go.[LNB]"I started training again last week and I'm feeling fairly fit now and I got a reserve game in during the week so I'm happy to get 90 minutes under my belt before this Hibs game.[LNB]"The boys are great and they are really good players. I've enjoyed watching them play and now I want to be involved.[LNB]"They've been playing great and the joy for the manager is that there are so many people available at the moment.[LNB]"We had the reserve game the other day and we had first-team players on the bench in that game so that shows the depth that we've got this year.[LNB]"From all reports, in previous years we didn't have that so it's good for the manager. And for me, I'll fight hard.[LNB]"I'm not involved at the moment but I'll keep working hard on the training paddock and see what comes of it."[LNB]Victory over Hibernian tomorrow would allow Rangers to move 10 points clear at the summit of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League, ahead of Celtic's game against Hearts on Sunday.[LNB]McKay said: "It's massive. Obviously it's very early on in the season and everyone has been saying that but to open up that type of gap is important.[LNB]"The boys have worked hard to get where we are and we want to continue that run.[LNB]"People said at the start of the season that we weren't playing that well but we continued to get the points and that's the most important thing."[LNB]On Hibs, he added: "I hear they are a very strong side.[LNB]"I've followed the league for a while and I know they haven't had the best of starts to the season.[LNB]"But they have some great players and they got a good win in midweek so that will have their confidence up.[LNB]"We'll have to be on our game and I'm sure the boys will relish the opportunity to go 10 points clear."[LNB]
