McGregor one of the best - Naismith

Steven Naismith knows his Rangers team-mate Allan McGregor has the credentials to be a success in the Barclays Premier League but hopes the goalkeeper will remain at Ibrox.

McGregor has been linked with Arsenal, among others, after consistently proving to be one of the leading goalkeepers in Europe.

The forward said: "I've seen lots of goalies around Europe and I would put Allan McGregor up with the best of them. You just need to look at the amount of saves, crucial saves, he has made to keep Rangers in games and to go on to win games."

He added: "We've been in this situation for a couple of years now - Madjid Bougherra, Allan McGregor have been linked with teams.

"They've not moved on yet. This is just another transfer window and hopefully it's one we can get through and we can keep all our players and hopefully add a few more bodies."

The departure of Kenny Miller, who netted 22 goals this season for Rangers, to Bursaspor, was a blow, conceded Naismith, who hopes to be joined by new faces in the squad.

"It is a big loss for us, but it gives the other players an opportunity," said Naismith.

"It would be nice if we could bring someone in. It would freshen the place up a bit and maybe put a few boys on their toes."
