McGregor finds Gers positives

Allan McGregor refused to take the credit for keeping Rangers' Champions League hopes alive in the wake of Tuesday's 1-0 defeat to Malmo.[LNB] Daniel Larsson netted the only goal in the first leg of the third round qualifier at Ibrox, leaving the Scottish champions' hopes of progression hanging in the balance.[LNB]But the Swedes could have been heading home with a greater advantage ahead of next week's return leg had it not been for the efforts of goalkeeper McGregor.[LNB]The Scotland international - who signed a new six-year contract this summer - came to the rescue with a number of impressive saves.[LNB]Asked if he had kept Rangers in the tie, McGregor said: "Not really. I've got a job to do and I need to do it.[LNB]"I'll go out every week and try to do my best."[LNB]But he admits Rangers were slow out of the traps against a team whose own domestic campaign is well under way.[LNB]He said: "I don't think we started too well, the other team started better than us and they looked sharper.[LNB]"But we can take more positives from the second half. We created a number of chances and, on another day, they would have gone in."[LNB]The defeat follows a 1-1 draw against Hearts in Saturday's SPL opener but McGregor believes Rangers can deliver the goods in Malmo next week.[LNB]He said: "We need to be confident. There is no point going there if we don't feel confident.[LNB]"The boys know what we have to do and we have got a decent record away from home in Europe.[LNB]"We are organised and we know what we need to do - it's just a case of going there and doing it. It's down to us now."[LNB]Ally McCoist is still waiting for his first competitive win as Rangers manager and he acknowledged the frustration of the Ibrox faithful, with jeers ringing around the stadium at the final whistle.[LNB]He said: "They have booed teams and results before and they will boo teams and results in the future. That's absolutely what they are entitled to do.[LNB]"If they are not happy with what they are seeing they will boo us, it's as simple as that. That's been the story since football began."[LNB]Malmo coach Rikard Norling refused to take his side's progression for granted despite an impressive display in Glasgow.[LNB]He said: "It is the best team we have played against since I've been here.[LNB]"We have played a good side and now we have to play them again at home and it will be very, very difficult for us then as well, so we will need to play at our best even then."[LNB]
