McDowall relishing Reds test

Assistant manager Kenny McDowall says Rangers' friendly against Liverpool gives his players a chance to prove their worth.[LNB] Ally McCoist's men crashed out of qualifying for both the Champions League and the Europa League earlier in the campaign and will make use of a free midweek by welcoming the Premier League side to Ibrox.[LNB]McDowall is well aware of the gulf between both domestic competitions but has predicted that the match will be a good test for the Scottish champions.[LNB]He said: "With the finance side of things, the gap is so wide now. It's incredible.[LNB]"This is probably one of the best ways of finding out how good you are.[LNB]"We played Chelsea earlier in the season and now we face Liverpool and it's a game our boys are looking forward to.[LNB]"They are international players like a lot of the Liverpool players so it's not a game that we will be afraid of."[LNB]Old Firm rivals Celtic face Rennes in the group stages of the Europa League on Thursday but McDowall insists Rangers will face just as big a challenge against Liverpool.[LNB]He added: "We are not playing in Europe but we are playing Liverpool so it's as good as a European match - a high-end European match.[LNB]"It's difficult for Celtic playing in the European games. We've done it for the last few years so we know exactly what they are facing.[LNB]"But we are faced with Liverpool, who are a good side. I'm sure we will be put through our paces as well.[LNB]"It's Scotland versus England. Just the fact that it's Liverpool, the respect will be there.[LNB]"They are coming to our place so they know we will be well up for it and I'm sure it will be a good game."[LNB]Rangers head into the game on the back of a disappointing draw at home to St Mirren at the weekend, with an injury-time equaliser denying them a 10th consecutive SPL win.[LNB]McDowall said: "We had a look at it on Saturday night but you've got to move on.[LNB]"We've got another game on Tuesday, a big game, so we will move on to that.[LNB]"The St Mirren game was a big disappointment after coming so close but you've got to get on with it. There is no point looking back."
