McCulloch hails Madjid performances

ee McCulloch reckons a host of top clubs will be interested in his Rangers team-mate Madjid Bougherra after watching him at the World Cup.[LNB] McCulloch would love to see the defender remain at Ibrox and see out the remainder of his contract with the Scottish champions, which still has another two years to run.[LNB]But he is realistic enough to accept that Bougherra could find himself inundated with offers this summer after the starring role he played in Algeria's 0-0 draw against England in South Africa.[LNB]Bougherra has already been linked with a £6million move to Arsenal and McCulloch does not believe a switch to one of the top clubs in the Premier League is out of his grasp.[LNB]"If you are playing at a World Cup against Wayne Rooney and you don't really let him get a kick of the ball, I think you could go anywhere," said McCulloch.[LNB]"Rooney is one of the best players in the world and for Madjid to have played so well against him, anybody in the world could be looking at him.[LNB]"With the season he had last year as well, I think there will be clubs looking at him and they will be hoping to get hold of him.[LNB]"But it's down to what he wants to do and what the club wants to do.[LNB]"It would be important to keep him because he is one of our best players and it would be great to keep him in the team as it would make it stronger for next year."[LNB]Bougherra's World Cup may be over but another Rangers player, United States international Maurice Edu, has progressed to the last 16 - despite the heartache of seeing his winner against Slovenia wrongly disallowed.[LNB]And McCulloch has been thrilled to see his club-mates hold their own on the world stage.[LNB]He said: "I've seen a few of the games and they have both been brilliant - a credit to the club.[LNB]"Madjid was superb against England and I thought he was the best player on the park. That's great for the club and for himself.[LNB]"Mo was unlucky not to get that winner that wasn't offside, so they have done themselves justice and the club justice."[LNB]If Rangers do lose Bougherra ahead of the new season, McCulloch believes they can take some comfort from the return of Andy Webster.[LNB]The defender's Rangers career has so far been plagued by injury but a successful season-long loan spell at Dundee United - he captained them to third in the SPL and Scottish Cup glory - means hopes are high for his Ibrox comeback.[LNB]McCulloch said: "Andy found his form last season, got his fitness back, and it will be great to have him back here.[LNB]"He will be a big player for Rangers this year.[LNB]"He's got his feet on the ground and he knows what it's all about at a club like this. It will be like a new signing."
