McCulloch considers Scotland return

McCulloch controversially quit the Scotland scene in the middle of the World Cup qualifying double-header against Macedonia and Iceland in September 2008.[LNB]The 31-year-old, who was injured at the time, was said to have been keen to concentrate on his club career.[LNB]There were also reports he did not want to play under former Scotland boss George Burley, and the suspicion of a rift between the pair will grow after today's revelation.[LNB]Indeed, Rangers' own official website reported McCulloch's U-turn was the result of "a change of regime".[LNB]The player, who earned the last of his 15 caps against Italy in November 2007 and never featured under Burley, now plans to hold talks with new Scotland manager Craig Levein and Ibrox boss Walter Smith.[LNB]He said on Rangers' website: "I think I need to have a word with the gaffer [Smith] and Craig Levein.[LNB]"The middle of the park is the strongest part of Scotland's team so there are six or seven players that are possibly younger than me that would come into the frame.[LNB]"So I don't want to say that I would come back or not.[LNB]"We will just have to wait and see what happens."[LNB]Former Motherwell and Wigan star McCulloch is the latest player to respond to Levein's appointment in a positive manner.[LNB]The new manager has made it clear Allan McGregor and Kris Boyd will be brought back into the set-up along with former Rangers and Scotland captain Barry Ferguson.[LNB]Andrew Driver also switched allegiance this week from England to Scotland under the new school rule.[LNB]But whether McCulloch is welcomed back into the dressing room remains to be seen, with the timing of his retirement announcement criticised by then vice-captain Stephen McManus.[LNB][LNB]
