McCoist hails deadly Boyd

First-team coach Ally McCoist hailed Kris Boyd after the striker's 21st goal of the season helped Rangers edge past St Mirren to reach the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup.

The Scotland international diverted the ball into the net with his backside five minutes from time to secure a 1-0 victory against the Buddies and set up a last-eight encounter with Dundee United.

A delighted McCoist said: "I mentioned Hibs striker Anthony Stokes last week to a couple of the boys because I've been impressed with the way he's used his body to score a couple of great goals this season.

"My initial reaction to Boydy's goal is that he also used his body really well.

"Was it his backside? Well, people in glass-houses shouldn't throw stones so I'll maintain the line that he used his body very well.

"The boys went out there and did a good job. It took time to score the winner but we're in the quarter-finals against Dundee United and that was the whole objective."
