McCoist - We proved a point

Manager Ally McCoist insists Rangers answered their critics with a 3-0 win over Motherwell in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

Goals from Steven Naismith, Kyle Lafferty and Gregg Wylde ensured victory at Fir Park over a side who had yet to concede a goal this season and who were sitting top of the table.

He said: "Before the game there were one or two questions being asked about our players, management team, the coaching staff - everybody at the club. It's only one game so let's not get carried away but I thought we answered one or two questions today. It's a long, long way to go and, as pleased as we are today, we know it's only three points."

McCoist had recorded just two wins in six competitive matches ahead of the meeting with Motherwell and the Rangers boss was asked if he was feeling the pressure ahead of this match.

He added: "Not at all. The only pressure I'm under is for Rangers to win and to pick a team with which Rangers can get three points.

"That will always be the pressure that any manager is under at our football club and if you can't handle it you shouldn't be in the job."

McCoist admits the comprehensive victory was the ideal tonic ahead of Thursday's second leg against Maribor in the Europa League where the Gers trail 2-1.

He said: "It's a real boost for us. I don't think there is a massive problem in terms of goalscoring but we now feel and know that we can score goals.

"I thought the quality of some of the finishes was exceptional. I have to say, we will be giving Maribor a right game on Thursday, of that you can be sure. If we show the same attitude as today, that's all we can ask for."
