Rangers manager Ally McCoist has confirmed he is yet to discuss extending David Weir's playing career.[LNB] The Gers captain is out of contract but reports suggest the 41-year-old defender could be set for a new one-year deal at Ibrox.[LNB]The veteran centre-half returned to the club's Murray Park training ground with the rest of the squad on Monday.[LNB]And while McCoist revealed there have been no discussions about his future yet, he is keen to discover how the former Hearts and Everton man feels about committing to a sixth season with the club.[LNB]"We've not spoken yet," he said.[LNB]"David's views will be as important as anything so I want to speak to him and see how he feels, see what he wants to do, what he feels he can do.[LNB]"There will be part of David that will want to start his coaching as well so we will just need to wait and see what he wants to do. We will have a chat, it's not a problem."[LNB]It has therefore been mooted that Weir could combine the two roles by acting as a player-coach next season.[LNB]But McCoist confirmed he would need to discuss that possibility with owner Craig Whyte before putting such a proposal to Weir.[LNB]"I haven't given it that much thought and I would need to clear it with the owner," he said.[LNB]"That's something we could maybe look at.[LNB]"David has been fantastic for this place and this place has been fantastic for David.[LNB]"The least we can do is to have a sit down and a chat and a cup of tea, and see what he wants to do."
