McCoist prepared for Jelavic bids

Manager Ally McCoist believes Nikica Jelavic showed once again how important he is to Rangers by grabbing a double to secure a 2-0 win over Hibernian in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

And he insists the decision will be his to make if any clubs make a bid for the Croatian hitman in January. Jelavic was the subject of a failed £6.5million bid from Leicester in August and was this week linked with a move to Liverpool when the transfer window re-opens next month.

Asked if it will be his call if offers come in, McCoist said: "Absolutely - I don't think there is any doubt about that. I would imagine we will be having this conversation for the next three or four weeks."

He added: "Jelavic showed today just how important he is to our football club. That's the way it is.

"I would far rather my players were playing really well and attracting attention from other people than not playing well and nobody being interested in them. Put it that way."

Jelavic netted from the penalty spot in the second half at Easter Road before grabbing his second of the day to seal the win.

Hibs boss Pat Fenlon had not viewed Rangers' penalty again to offer his verdict but he felt his own side could have had a spot-kick for handball by Steven Whittaker just moments earlier.

He said: "I haven't seen their penalty properly so it's a little bit difficult to comment too much on it.

"I thought the two players were wrapped around each other but people have said to me that's a penalty. I would like to see it and make a decision on it.

"I thought we might have had one just beforehand, I thought the full-back might have handled the ball. But sometimes you don't get things."
