McCoist: No time to dwell on draw

The holders surrendered a 3-1 lead as they were pegged back to a 3-3 draw by United in the quarter-final clash.[LNB]But the treble-chasing side now turn their attentions to their Co-operative Insurance Cup final against St Mirren at Hampden this weekend as they bid to take a step closer to a domestic clean-sweep.[LNB]McCoist said: "You don't get much time to hang about because we have another fantastic opportunity for silverware on Sunday against a team who have made it very difficult for us in the past.[LNB]"You just have to look at the two previous cup ties. But it's something to look forward to, a national cup final at Hampden and these are big games that players want to be involved in. It's a real big one for us."[LNB]And the Rangers number two admits a massive improvement is needed following yesterday's efforts.[LNB]"I don't think we got going at all," he said.[LNB]"We started the first five or 10 minutes okay, dipped and then came back into it again when United scored. It's as if we were waiting on something happening before we could get going.[LNB]"That's the second time we have lost three goals in the cup and, by our standards, that isn't good enough. I thought the goals we lost were pretty poor."[LNB]Andis Shala grabbed the opener for United before Kris Boyd twice converted from the penalty spot and a Nacho Novo strike should have put the tie beyond the visitors.[LNB]But an own-goal from Steven Whittaker threw the Tayside club a lifeline before Mihael Kovacevic levelled to force a replay late on.[LNB]McCoist said: "I'm disappointed because we should be seeing games out when we are 3-1 up at home.[LNB]"There's a little bit of relief as well because they put us under pressure in the last few minutes with throw-ins and free-kicks and putting the ball in our box.[LNB]"Overall, we didn't play nearly well enough. We are a lot better than how we played. When we score three goals at home, you would expect us to see the game out but that wasn't the case and that's disappointing."[LNB]Maurice Edu echoed McCoist when he admitted Rangers must do better when they face Saints this weekend.[LNB]"There are little things we could do all around the pitch that would make us a little more consistent as a team," said the American midfielder.[LNB]"There were moments in this game when we were a little bit off and we weren't ourselves. But we didn't lose the game, we are still in the cup and we have a chance to go up there and re-establish ourselves and push on in the competition."[LNB]Rangers were dealt a blow ahead of the League Cup final with the news Madjid Bougherra faces at least another three weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring problem.[LNB]Edu added: "Madjid is a big part of our team. He adds a different element to our team, whether it's defending or getting forward in the attack.[LNB]"We will miss him but Danny Wilson has come in this season and done well for us when he has had chances to play and I think him and Davie Weir will be up for the match and will be a good combination."[LNB]Meanwhile, Rangers were today handed a potential semi-final against Raith Rovers, should they win at Tannadice.[LNB]However, striker Andrew Little said: "The fact that we're not in the semi-final yet makes it sort of irrelevant. You could say everyone would like an Old Firm final and that's still on the cards.[LNB]"But you have to beat everyone in front of you and we'll be concentrating on Dundee United."[LNB][LNB] Scottish Premier League.
