But he insists he would never put the striker under extra pressure by tipping him to match his own achievements at Rangers.[LNB]McCoist - now assistant manager at Ibrox - remains the club's all-time leading scorer with 355 goals in all competitions over a 15-year playing career with the Light Blues.[LNB]He said: "I would never say he could or he couldn't match my record because it's not fair to Kris.[LNB]"He is coming along really nicely. He beat Henrik's record, which is no mean feat at all and was tremendous.[LNB]"That's the one thing I would guarantee, that he will score goals.[LNB]"If he stayed with us for a good number of years he would break all sorts of records but it would unfair of me to say that if he stayed here he would beat my record or someone else's.[LNB]"I would never put any undue pressure on Kris because he does the hardest thing in the game by putting the ball in the back of the net and he does it very well."[LNB]Boyd's five goals against Dundee United last week brought his tally of SPL goals to 160 - two more than Celtic legend Larsson - but his ability to build on that record depends on where his future lies.[LNB]The 26-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and now free to speak to other clubs but McCoist still hopes the prolific forward will pledge his future to the Scottish champions.[LNB]He said: "We are no different from any other football club so we will have to listen to people if they come in with offers.[LNB]"But, if I'm being brutally honest, I hope the telephone doesn't ring that often.[LNB]"The big one everybody is talking about is Kris Boyd and I'm just forever hopeful that Kris and the club can come to some agreement and he that he spends the foreseeable future at Rangers."[LNB]While Boyd spends the coming weeks pondering whether to sign a new contract, the Rangers management team are preparing to work without one when their own deals come to an end on Friday.[LNB]Boss Walter Smith and his coaching staff have agreed to work without contracts while the club searches for a buyer.[LNB]"It's not an ideal situation but it's fine," said McCoist.[LNB]"The most important thing is the football club - it always has been and always will be.[LNB]"We've had some tough times but the players have been absolutely unbelievable to continue doing their job to the extent that they have and to have us sitting at the top of the league.[LNB]"We have come through a tough period and we are sitting in a good position and every single one of the players have been fantastic."[LNB][LNB] Hamilton v Rangers.
