McCoist keen to keep McGregor

Rangers manager Ally McCoist has issued a hands-off warning after goalkeeper Allan McGregor was linked with a move to Malaga.

McGregor was in fine form yet again as the Ibrox side cruised to a comfortable 4-0 win at Arbroath in the fourth round of the William Hill Scottish Cup.

McCoist is keen to retain the services of all his top players this month and said: "Thankfully the weather here wasn't too bad or maybe we would all be heading to Malaga. Allan is a massive, massive part of our plans for the future and I can tell you right now that I certainly would not welcome any bids for Allan."

The Gers boss has not hidden the fact he is keen to recruit a striker this month, especially following injury to Kyle Lafferty which is set to sideline the Northern Irishman for up to seven weeks. And the Rangers boss says St Johnstone's Francisco Sandaza is a player on his radar after Saints boss Steve Lomas confirmed the champions' interest.

McCoist said: "I'll have a chat with (owner) Craig (Whyte) and see where we are on that one. He is just one of a number of forwards that I'm really, really interested in."

Strikes from David Healy and Nikica Jelavic were sandwiched between an own goal by Craig Wedderburn at Gayfield on Sunday. Salim Kerkar - who has been with Rangers since 2010 - then came off the bench to claim his first competitive goal for the club.

McCoist said: "I was delighted for him. He is a smashing lad and has waited long enough for his chance. It's wonderful to see the relationship he has got with the fans. I think they really appreciate the fact that he's a solid citizen and he is always very reliable. He was just waiting for his chance and he got it and I was absolutely delighted for him."

Arbroath boss Paul Sheerin admits Rangers deserved their win.

He said: "There were no upsets yesterday and you think maybe you could be the team but the gulf was huge.

"We matched them okay until the first goal but they were well worthy of their win. They were far superior on the day unfortunately."
