Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist believes it would be a "real blow" if they are forced to play European games behind closed doors next season.
That is one of the sanctions the Scottish champions could face as UEFA on Thursday hear two charges of discriminatory behaviour against their supporters relating to both legs of the Europa League tie against PSV Eindhoven.
McCoist, who replaces Walter Smith as manager at the end of the season, was asked about a possible ban on fans at matches. He said: "I would be disappointed, make no mistake about that. The atmosphere at our place in the Champions League in recent seasons has been out of this world."
He added: "I'd feel really sorry for the good fans and the players as well. Hopefully it won't be the case. It would be a real blow. I just think it's quite strange that you can't represent yourself when you've got an accusation levelled against you.
"I think anybody would like to defend themselves and put their opinions across. It would have been nice to be able to represent yourself."
Meanwhile, McCoist said he was "very hopeful" about the chances of Allan McGregor signing a new deal. Reports claim the goalkeeper, who has two years left on his contract, has been offered a new four-year deal.
McCoist said: "I can't confirm it unfortunately because I haven't really spoken to (chief executive) Martin Bain or Allan about it. But I know that Martin and Allan's representatives have been talking.
"The fact that Allan has come out and said he wants to stay is a great start to any conversation about someone renewing their contract.
"It would certainly be a great boost for us. From the management side, we are very hopeful that a deal can be done.
"We saw at the weekend how important he is for us but he has been top class for a while."
