McCoist enjoying Rangers ride

Ally McCoist insists he is loving life as Rangers manager, despite admitting his tenure has been a "bumpy ride" so far.[LNB] McCoist endured a difficult start to the job when Rangers began their league campaign with a draw at home to Hearts and crashed out of both the Champions League and Europa League at the qualifying stages.[LNB]But results in the SPL have improved dramatically, earning McCoist - who replaced Walter Smith at the Ibrox helm in the summer - the SPL manager of the month award for September.[LNB]He said: "I absolutely love the day-to-day stuff but what I really enjoy are the games.[LNB]"It's been a bumpy ride, it's not all been plain sailing, and it will continue to be a bumpy ride, of that I'm very confident.[LNB]"But it's a job that I love and I really do enjoy it. I'm still learning the job and I don't claim to know everything, but I'm doing my best to learn and I'll continue to enjoy it."[LNB]Rangers are aiming for a 10th consecutive SPL win at home to St Mirren on Saturday and McCoist was asked what kind of message such a run would send out to everyone else.[LNB]He said: "The message it would send out to everybody is that we've got a terrific level of consistency. I hope we do send that message out but we have to earn it.[LNB]"One thing that has helped us get results, and has guaranteed us results, is a desire to work really hard for each other. That will have to be the case again tomorrow.[LNB]"If we are lucky enough to get the win, it will certainly send a message that we are showing a good level of consistency.[LNB]"We have shown a consistency in the league so far that we have been very pleased with and which has been very good.[LNB]"At the same time, with the European thing and the League Cup, it has been balanced with that. It has been a bumpy ride, a helter-skelter ride.[LNB]"There has been some very good stuff and some disappointments along the way.[LNB]"In terms of the league campaign, all we can really hope for is that the lads show the same level of consistency, which they have done.[LNB]"They have approached all the games in a terrific manner and I think they have got their deserved rewards. It's just more of the same really."[LNB]Rangers head into the weekend with a 10-point advantage over Celtic and nine points clear of second-placed Motherwell.[LNB]McCoist said: "It is a comfort because you go out to win games and create gaps. At this moment in time, we have a gap but that's all it is.[LNB]"I don't think we are even a quarter of the way through the season so for me to sit here and tell you anything other than there's miles to go would be wrong.[LNB]"There are teams in the league more than capable of taking points off each other and that will happen between now and the end of the season.[LNB]"You can guarantee that there will be points won and points dropped.[LNB]"We are in a good and healthy position at the moment but that's all it is.[LNB]"There is no way we can take our foot off the gas and there is no way we can start looking behind. We've got to look forward and we've got to continue winning games."[LNB]Meanwhile, McCoist believes James McFadden will be a welcome addition to the SPL again after Celtic confirmed their interest in the Scotland international.[LNB]He said: "Faddy is a very talented player, there is no doubt about that. He is a smashing lad.[LNB]"He is a winger who will take people on and he can score goals as well. As we all know, he has scored some fantastic goals. I think he will be a great acquisition to the league."[LNB]But McCoist says he was not tempted to swoop for the free agent himself, adding: "I'm quite happy with the squad at the moment. We are not too bad in the wider areas."
