McCoist - Club comes first

Ally McCoist has revealed he would be willing to walk away from Rangers if a potential new owner did not want him as manager.

The Ibrox number two is set to replace Walter Smith at the helm in 12 months time when the veteran boss retires after both men signed new contracts last month.

But McCoist acknowledges the situation could change, telling the Scottish News of the World: "I don't want to sound like a martyr but the club comes first in the event of someone coming in with cash."

Rangers were this week taken off the market by Sir David Murray after failing to secure any suitable offers but McCoist knows the situation could change.

He added: "The reality is the club has been up for sale. It has been taken off the market now but that doesn't mean to say a year down the line someone couldn't come in with another bid.

"While there's a chance of somebody coming in, buying the club and investing in it, I have to be realistic.

"If they do that they may want to bring their own person in. That's something I would have to accept because it's likely to be in the best interests of the club."
