British police have made an arrest following allegations of racist tweets directed at two Rangers players.

A 41-year-old man is being held in custody after complaints that Rangers defender Kyle Bartley and team-mate Maurice Edu had been abused on Twitter.

Bartley, on loan at the Scottish champions from Arsenal, wrote on his page: "Disappointing that in 2012 things like this are still happening. Hopefully the police will take action. Thank you all for the support."

Edu tweeted: "Sad day when that's what people are tweeting."
