    Little rescues Gers point

    23 Jan 2010 - 17:01:53

SPL leaders Rangers missed a chance to move 12 points clear at the top of the SPL table as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Ibrox by ten-man Hearts.

The Jambos were a man short when Christian Nade was dismissed 17 minutes from time, but soon after Scott Robinson pounced after Allan McGregor had parried a David Obua effort.

However, the Gers rescued a point right at the death as Andy Little netted his first goal for the club after Lee McCulloch's shot was blocked.

Hibernian moved up to third place in the standings with a 5-1 demolition of Hamilton Academical at Easter Road.

The home side took 16 minutes to break the deadlock, as Liam Miller and Anthony Stokes combined to forge an opening and Colin Nish added the finishing touch with a header.

Five minutes later it was 2-0 as Stokes shook off his marker Alex Neil and found the net with a shot from just outside the area.

On the half-hour mark Derek Riordan added a third after keeper Tomas Cerny kept out an initial Stokes effort and the same player made it 4-0 with a free-kick shortly after the restart.

Stokes got his second of the game and Hibs' fifth of the afternoon four minutes later, as the Accies' backline crumbled once again, before Flavio Paixao netted a consolation.

The lunchtime kick-off saw Motherwell secure a 2-0 victory at home to St Mirren to cement their place in the top half of the table.

Jamie Murphy broke the deadlock at Fir Park after he latched onto a knock-down from John Sutton 11 minutes into the second half.

Sutton added the clinching second himself with a smart turn and finish 14 minutes from time.

Jimmy Calderwood's return to Aberdeen with Kilmarnock ended in defeat as the home side edged a 1-0 victory.

Derek Young netted the only goal of the game at Pittodrie four minutes after half-time, firing home a superb volley from the edge of the area to beat keeper Cameron Bell all ends up.
