Life goes on after Boyd - Miller
Kenny Miller insists life will go on at Rangers despite the loss of strike partner Kris Boyd to Championship outfit Middlesbrough.[LNB] Boyd ended his four-and-a-half-year association with the Scottish champions when he joined the Boro on a two-year deal last week.[LNB]He had already rejected the offer of a contract extension to remain at Ibrox, where he has been the club's top scorer every season since his arrival from Kilmarnock in January 2006.[LNB]Miller - who struck up a profitable partnership with Boyd - knows his departure will leave a massive void at Rangers.[LNB]But he insists someone else now has the opportunity to make a name for themselves as Rangers' most prolific forward next term.[LNB]"Everybody in the dressing room wishes Kris all the best and we hope he does the same for Middlesbrough," Miller said.[LNB]"But we've got to move on. One door closes and another opens.[LNB]"There is a chance for somebody to step into his shoes and hopefully score the goals that will take us back to the title this year."[LNB]Boyd wrote his name into the history books when he replaced Celtic legend Henrik Larsson as the SPL's all-time top goalscorer last season, reaching the milestone in style with a blistering five-goal spree against Dundee United back in December.[LNB]"Boydy is going to be a big miss," added Miller. "It's an incredible level, a consistent level that he showed in the time he was here.[LNB]"So he is going to be missed, not only for what he does on the park but he's a good lad and he's a good mate of a lot of the lads in the dressing room. He will be missed."[LNB]Boss Walter Smith has cash to spend this summer and may now focus his search on a new striker after Rangers were forced to admit defeat in their efforts to retain the services of Boyd.[LNB]But Miller believes his exit has provided an opportunity for Kyle Lafferty and Steven Naismith to finally make their mark, as well as any new arrivals.[LNB]"Both have done very well," he told Blues News.[LNB]"Laff chipped in with a few important goals towards the end of last season and Naisy had a wee outing up front against Aberdeen at home.[LNB]"I really enjoyed it, it was one of the games I probably enjoyed the most towards the end of the season. I thought we played some great stuff that day.[LNB]"It's an opportunity, whether we sign somebody in that position or whether it's down to the lads like myself, Laff and Naisy to fill the positions and score the goals.[LNB]"It's up to us to show in pre-season what we can offer to the team to steal those two places."
