Lengthy lay-off for Burke

Rangers winger Chris Burke will be sidelined until after Christmas after being told he needs a shoulder operation.

The 22-year-old damaged the ligaments in his left shoulder as a result of a collision with Aiden McGeady during last weekend's 2-0 loss at Celtic.

The Scotland international will go under the knife on Friday and then faces a 12-week rehabilitation programme.

Burke has endured a tough time with injuries this term, missing the start of the campaign due to an ankle problem before damaging his other ankle during a friendly against Zenit St Petersburg.
