Keane arrival won't affect Weir

The Ibrox skipper believes the arrival of the striker on loan from Tottenham until the end of the season will hand the Hoops a lift and be good news for the game north of the border in general.[LNB]But the veteran defender sees no reason why Keane - who was welcomed by hordes of Celtic fans at Parkhead last night - should become a hot topic of conversation on the other side of the city.[LNB]"There hasn't been any chat about it to be honest," said Weir.[LNB]"It's great for the league to have a player of that calibre coming to play up here but, with regards to Rangers, I don't think it's really going to affect what we do."[LNB]Instead, he has urged Rangers to focus on booking their place in the final of the Co-operative Insurance Cup by dumping St Johnstone at Hampden on Wednesday night.[LNB]He added: "It's really easy to distance ourselves to be honest.[LNB]"We are playing St Johnstone in a cup semi-final and, regardless of what's going on anywhere else, if we don't focus our attention on that we will be in trouble.[LNB]"What happens elsewhere is not really our concern. It's not something we can affect or change. All we can do is hopefully win our game tomorrow."[LNB]However, Weir - who faced Keane while in the Barclays Premier League - admits he is relishing the prospect of locking horns again in this month's Old Firm derby.[LNB]"Of course, that's what you want," he said.[LNB]"You want to be playing against good players and you want to be playing good teams. You want people to be talking about the game and the league.[LNB]"You want it to be exciting and you want to win the league because you are the best team. That's the be all and end all. That's what it's all about.[LNB]"It's another challenge for us and the more good players you are playing against, the better."[LNB]He added: "He is a top player, he has played in the Premiership for years. He has had a lot of success down there and scored a lot of goals.[LNB]"He is a great addition to the league and I'm sure the Celtic fans will be delighted to get him."[LNB]Rangers had hoped the departure of Pedro Mendes to Sporting Lisbon would pave the way for a new signing of their own but the midnight deadline passed with no new arrivals at Ibrox.[LNB]However, Weir believes retaining the services of key personnel was just as important.[LNB]He said: "It's a plus because we have been relatively successful this season with regards to what we are trying to do.[LNB]"Pedro has left but we had been missing him through injury. It's good to have our players still here.[LNB]"There were a lot of rumours about our players leaving so it's good news that the vast majority of people are still here."[LNB][LNB] Rangers 2/7, Draw 4/1, St. Johnstone 8/1
