Jelavic keen to prove his worth

New recruit Nikica Jelavic admits he still has some way to go before he deserves the adulation of the Rangers fans. The Croatian striker made his debut in the 2-1 win over St Johnstone in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League after being granted a work permit. The introduction of Jelavic, who signed from Rapid Vienna for £4million, was met with noisy approval from the Ibrox faithful when he came off the bench with just over 20 minutes to go. He concedes he needs time to adapt to the Scottish game but is confident of his ability to settle in his new surroundings. "It was nice to hear all these fans but I have to prove myself to deserve this," he said. "I had 20 minutes and it was hard but I think it will be better and better. "I don't know how long it will take for top match sharpness but I hope it won't be too long. You have to go for every ball 100% so it's a little bit different but I think it will come. It was nice to be part of this game and it was a hard match. But after we showed our character, we won the match which is very important for us."
