Jelavic calls for Euro repeat

Nikica Jelavic has urged Rangers to call on the spirit of 2008 and go all the way in the Europa League this season.

The Scottish champions just missed out on the silverware in the UEFA Cup two years ago in Manchester and Jelavic insists there is no reason why they cannot repeat such a run when they parachute into the Europa League after Christmas, having missed out on the last 16 of the Champions League.

The striker is ineligible for the competition but has plenty of faith in his team-mates, and said: "There is no reason why the team can't do well in the Europa League this season."

He added: "They have done very well in the Champions League and, with a bit more luck, could have been going for second place in the group.

"I think if we can get a few players back from injury and can play with the same spirit as two years ago when we reached the UEFA Cup final, you never know what can happen.

"We have to aim high and believe that anything is possible."

Jelavic has been out of action since suffering ankle ligament damage at the start of October.

And, having watched Kenny Miller notch up 18 goals already this season, he is desperate to resume his partnership with the striker.

Jelavic said: "It is unbelievable how he has this feeling to score goals. He shows a desire to find the net in every game and I admire this a lot. His record this season has been great and I look forward to playing alongside him again when I am fit."
