Hutton boosted by European experience
Rangers teenager Kyle Hutton believes he can only benefit from facing the likes of Paul Scholes during their Champions League defeat by Manchester United.
The 19-year-old was handed his second Rangers start, and fifth appearance in all, in Walter Smith's injury-hit team for Wednesday night's 1-0 Ibrox defeat.
Hutton only found out he was playing hours before kick-off after Kyle Lafferty broke a bone in his hand during a training session. But the midfielder feels he acquitted himself well after a nervous opening. Hutton looked composed on the ball and helped Rangers hold Sir Alex Ferguson's side until Wayne Rooney netted an 87th-minute penalty.
"It was absolutely fantastic, a dream come true," Hutton told the club`s official website. "To come up against Manchester United in the Champions League, it doesn't get any bigger than that. Obviously I was really surprised when I was told I would be starting but I just tried to get my head around it quickly and get on with it.
"There were a few butterflies in the build-up to the game, I think that's only natural, and in the first 10 minutes you are always going to be a wee bit shaky.
"But once I settled into the match I though I did okay. The manager said to me before the game just to try and get a few early touches on the ball and I tried to do that and keep things simple. From there I just worked as hard as I could and in the second half I did my best to get forward a bit more. But overall it was a great game to play in and to come up against Michael Carrick and Paul Scholes was a terrific experience."
