Greening hopes Albion bag Ferguson
The Baggies have been strongly linked with an audacious approach for the Rangers midfielder, who has endured a troubled season at Ibrox.
The Scotland international was stripped of the Gers captaincy following an ill-advised drinking session while away on international duty.
He then further inflamed the matter when, along with team-mate Allan McGregor, he made inappropriate signals to cameras while on the bench for the national side.
The whole episode has put his future with Rangers in doubt, despite the club landing the SPL title on Sunday.
Ferguson was seen at West Brom's final home game of the season against Liverpool, fuelling speculation of a switch to The Hawthorns, and Baggies skipper Greening has admitted that Tony Mowbray's men would welcome his experience as they look to bounce back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.
"Barry Ferguson is the kind of player who would make a big statement. He has played at the top level for a long, long time," he said. "The gaffer likes him a lot and, if he came to Albion, then it would be a real coup.
"He's an international player, (who has) won lots of trophies and is a good central midfielder. To get someone of his calibre would be great for us."
