    Gers stroll to comfortable win

    29 Aug 2009 - 17:40:00

Rangers made it three victories out of three as two goals by both Steven Whittaker and Kris Boyd helped Walter Smith's side ease to a 4-1 victory against Hamilton Academical.

Whittaker's superb 19th-minute strike eased any nerves there were in the Ibrox crowd and former Kilmarnock forward Boyd made it 2-0 before half-time.

Boyd turned in Rangers' third before Whittaker's curling effort made it 4-0.

Mark McLaughlin headed a late consolation goal for the Accies, who are still struggling to find their feet this season after a busy summer of wheeling and dealing by boss Billy Reid.

Dundee United moved up to second in the table after goals by ex-Bradford City and Huddersfield Town striker Danny Cadamarteri and David Goodwillie helped the Terrors beat pointless Falkirk 2-1 at Tannadice.

After a goalless first half, Cadamarteri broke the deadlock early in the second period and Goodwillie made it 2-0 in the 56th minute with a clinical strike.

The Terrors wasted several chances to make the game safe and were made to endure a nervy last few minutes when Kjartan Finnbogason pulled a goal back with 15 minutes left.

Aberdeen and Motherwell drew 0-0 at Pittodrie but it was an entertaining encounter despite the lack of goals.

Charlie Mulgrew wasted the Dons' best opportunity, while Lucas Jutkiewicz twice went close for Jim Gannon's team.

It was the first time Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee had faced his former team since leaving Fir Park in the summer.

St Mirren came from behind to register their first victory of the campaign as they beat Kilmarnock 2-1 at Rugby Park.

Conor Sammon gave Killie an early lead with a 20-yard shot after being set up by David Fernandez but Stephen McGinn volleyed home an equaliser three minutes after the break.

The 20-year-old scored the winner against the run of play in the 69th minute as the Buddies moved up to seventh in the embryonic table.
