Gers open to Boyd departure

Rangers manager Walter Smith has paved the way for Kris Boyd to leave Ibrox after claiming he has enough cover to replace the Scotland striker.

Boyd, 25, has been linked with a transfer window move to Birmingham City, but has so far failed to agree terms with the Championship club.

Sunderland and Fulham are also believed to be keen on the Glasgow club's 20-goal top-scorer.

"We have a number of strikers who can come in and play," said Smith.

"Kris has been playing regularly in the team but we have a number of others who are there - Kyle Lafferty, Kenny Miller, Nacho Novo, Andrius Velicka and Steven Naismith, who is just coming back to fitness.

"I'm sure the boys who weren't getting the opportunity were unhappy about the fact that they weren't playing.

"If they do get the opportunity now, then they get a chance to show what they can do and that's what they have to show more than anything else."
