Gers back McGregor

Rangers are set to appeal against goalkeeper Allan McGregor's sending-off during the 4-0 UEFA Cup win at home to Hapoel Tel-Aviv.

McGregor was dismissed for a clash with Luciano de Bruno with the Gers already 3-0 ahead on the night and heading into the last 16 of the competition and the SPL side believe they have grounds to appeal.

Chief executive Martin Bain told the club's official website: "We were very disappointed with Allan's ordering off. He is adamant he never made any contact with the player and we back him fully.

"The club will put forward its case to UEFA early next week and we hope to convince the disciplinary body of his innocence.

"Allan's red card spoiled what was a terrific evening for the club. It's a shame such an occasion was marred by what we consider to be a poor decision."
