Rangers have stripped Barry Ferguson of the club captaincy and handed the armband to squad player Gavin Rae.

Ferguson has been left out of the squad for the clash with Motherwell, with his future at Ibrox called into question after his axing by boss Paul Le Guen.

Meanwhile, Rae admits that he is still in shock at the decision, as he has been far from a regular starter for the Gers this season.

He told The Sun: "I'm caught in the crossfire a little bit, but what's happened between the gaffer and Barry has nothing to do with me.

"I don't even know what's been said between the pair of them and to be honest I don't want to know."
