Gers abandon Shittu talks

Rangers have abandoned their plans to sign Danny Shittu after failing to agree personal terms with the Watford defender.

The Ibrox club had a agreed a £1.5million fee with the Championship side for a player who has also been linked with a move to Celtic, but were unable to strike a deal with the Nigeria centre-half.

"There have been negotiations going on between the club and the player for quite a period of time and we have not managed to reach an agreement, so it looks as if that one is finished," Smith told the club's official website.

Meanwhile, Smith is waiting to discover the extent of a hamstring problem picked up by injury-plagued winger DaMarcus Beasley in their 1-0 pre-season friendly victory over SC Preussen Munster.
