Gers star desperate to wow Walter
Northern Ireland international Little, 20, has yet to find a settled position at Ibrox - or gain a first-team start - although he has been used as striker for his country.
At Thursday's League Cup draw at Hampden - hours before it was revealed Smith had been handed a four-match touchline ban for his sending-off in the Scottish Premier League game at Kilmarnock last week - Little said: "It's early days in the season and I know the manager wants to get his side playing together as often as possible.
"But hopefully my chance will come.
"I had a slight injury for a couple of days but I'm fit and training away.
"Whether it is through injuries or the league cup game, where he might give a couple of us a run, I will be looking to take my chance.
"I will play absolutely anywhere. I just want the jersey.
"I probably have a preference as a striker in terms of everyone wants to score goals but I also enjoy right-back.
"It's good to have versatility and if I get my chance then hopefully I will take it."
Little admits the trip to Dens Park could prove problematic.
"The draw could have been better," the Irishman said. "They will be on a high after beating Aberdeen; that will give them a lot of confidence.
"Dundee are an ambitious side and have spent a lot of money over the summer.
"I'm sure they think that they should be an SPL club and this gives them a chance to make a point and show a few people what they can do.
"It is going to be a difficult tie but we went to a First Division side in the last round (Queen of the South) and got the win so hopefully we can do that again."
