Gers squad strong enough - Miller

The Scottish champions failed to recruit a single new player over the summer and appear unlikely to bolster their numbers before the transfer window closes at the end of the month. Although managing to retain key personnel such as Pedro Mendes, Madjid Bougherra and Kris Boyd, several players have quit Ibrox, with former skipper Barry Ferguson the most high-profile departure. As well as defending their crown and competing in both cup competitions, Rangers are also preparing for the group stages of the Champions League next month. But Miller has every confidence in the current crop of players' ability to cope with the challenges ahead. He said: "We have already had a couple of injuries and suspensions and we had a really good performance last week. "To be fair, 4-1 might have been a bit flattering to us because Falkirk did play very well. But we got the goals and took advantage of the chances we had. "We've got lads still to come back and Kevin Thomson coming back will be like having a new player in the team. "He is being brought in gradually but it's another big player coming back for us. Kirk Broadfoot is also going to be back in a few months. "We've got a few injuries as it stands at the moment and only time will tell if we can stand up to losing a few players but I think we still have a reasonably big squad and more than enough lads to cover if there are injuries and suspensions." Rangers travel to Tynecastle on Sunday to face a Hearts side who will be reeling from back-to-back defeats against Dundee United and Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League. But Miller insisted: "It will be no different from any other year. "They had a heavy defeat on Thursday night and didn't get off to a good start in the league so they will want to put that right. "They will be wanting the win on Sunday and we just have to be ready for that. They always give you a tough game but hopefully we will get the three points." Miller netted a double against Falkirk last week and hopes to better last season's tally of 13 goals. But he is well aware he is unlikely to steal Kris Boyd's crown as top goalscorer after his strike partner bagged more than 30 goals last term. Miller said: "Getting the result is the priority but getting a couple of goals was great. "As a striker you always want to get off the mark early doors. "It was a good result, good performance and I was buzzing to get a couple of goals. "It's not any different from last season, I want to be part of a successful team. "I want to stay fit, I want to stay in the team and my target is basically to beat what I got last year. I should have had a few more goals last year, I should have been pushing 20 and if I can better that this year then great. "I've got off to a good start and I'll just look to build on that at the weekend. Boydy is always going to be our main goalscorer, that's the way it is, that's the kind of player he is."
