Gers boss claims SFWA gong again

Rangers boss Walter Smith has been named the Scottish Football Writers' Association Manager of the Year for the seventh time.[LNB] Smith was the overwhelming choice for the gong, which he has won for the second time in three years.[LNB]Smith was rewarded for securing a second successive Scottish Premier League title as well as winning the Co-Operative Insurance Cup.[LNB]The 62-year-old said: "It's a great honour to win the award and I am delighted to do so.[LNB]"It reflects not only on the strength of character the players have shown this season, but also the support I've had from my backroom staff, who've been massively influential in what has been a very awkward season.[LNB]"There have been managers throughout the divisions in Scottish football this season who could make a justifiable case for this award.[LNB]"I'd like to acknowledge the difficulties all managers face in the present football climate and I'm very pleased to have been chosen ahead of them."[LNB]Smith, who was also named Clydesdale Bank Manager of the Year last month, will be presented with his writers' award at the SFWA's annual dinner in Glasgow next Sunday.
