Gers boosted by narrow win - Smith

Rangers boss Walter Smith admits the win over Inverness has provided a huge psychological boost as his side bid to return to the top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League. Steven Davis grabbed the only goal of the game as the Scottish champions moved to within two points of leaders Celtic, with two games in hand over their rivals. Rangers could move into pole position before Celtic are next in action by beating Hearts in Saturday's early kick-off, the Hoops taking on Aberdeen later in the day. And Smith said: "We've got games in hand that we have to win and it makes each of the games we play in midweek important ones for us. "That was why this game was really important psychologically. We've closed the gap a little bit and we hope we can continue to win the games that we have in hand, although it might be a few weeks yet before we can get level on games."
