Gers back on top

Rangers put their off-field troubles to one side to claim a 2-1 win over St Mirren that saw them move top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League. The club is facing UEFA disciplinary charges relating to alleged sectarian chanting at both legs of their Europa League tie against PSV Eindhoven but were able to deliver the goods on the park at Ibrox. Sasa Papac hit the opener when he smacked in the rebound after Kyle Lafferty's shot was blocked on the line. Darren McGregor equalised but before Steven Whittaker netted the winner from the penalty spot after Nikica Jelavic was fouled by John Potter. Rangers are now one point clear of Celtic, who are in Scottish Cup action this weekend.
